Character of a Happy Life

Character of a Happy Life

by Sir Henry Wotton

How happy is he born and taught,

That serve not other's will;

Whose armor is his honest thoughts,

And simple truth his utmost skill!

Whose passions not his masters are,

Whose soul is still prepared for death;

Untied unto the world by care,

Of public fame, or private breath.

Who hath his life from rumors freed,

Whose conscience is his strong retreat;

Whose state can neither flatters feed,

Nor ruin make oppressors great.

Who God doth late and early pray,

More of His grace than gifts to lend;

And entertains the harmless day,

With a religious book or friend.

This man is freed from servile bands,

Of hope to rise, or fear to fall;

Lord of himself, though not of lands,

And having nothing, yet hath all.

This is a very wonderful poem that I wish to share with you. I had been busy sorting out my old things. I came across this poem in one of my old diary. This poem was written by Sir Henry Wotton describing the characteristics of a happy life.

Having a simple life with nothing to compare with. Enjoying each day of what you have. Being contented for what you are, what you and what you can do. Just simple living without any competition from anything. Life is good so live it to the fullest as it comes every day for we never the same path as of today. Be honest and don't be afriad to fight for the truth. Live life in transparency. Do not copy or act like others. Be you not any body. Smile more. Never lose hope, fear and always trust God to be happy every day!
