Chewables

As I was talking to a friend on the phone, I said "I've decided to be single." And my friend replied, "Don't eat what you cannot chew."

That was a very short sentence but meant a lot. Maybe at the moment I said that because I was not in the mood. It is true that in life before we say, do, decide and react on things, we need to make sure that we know what we are doing.
When we were young, our parents feed us. The food that they gave is instant. Since we don't have enough strong teeth our food our chewable. We can swallow it so quickly too. Our life then was always guided, guarded and everything was provided by our parents. Life was fun and easy. We are in the process of growing and learning but with complete support from our love ones. The support is given in a silver platter.
As we grow and mature, we receive freedom because we already knew the difference between 'right and wrong', or 'yes or no'. We get the freedom to choose what we want to wear, what we want to play, who do we want to hang out with and most specially what do we want to eat. As the choices grew wider and more advanced we become confused and lost. These numerous choices challenge us to apply what we have learned through school, experience and life itself on how to deal with the mystery that unfolds in our daily activities.
My friend is right, we need to choose only the food that we can chew. Choose the song that we can sing. Choose the words we say that we can stand by for it. Choose the decisions we want to make. Now that I am a grown up, my decisions affect the people around me so much.

"Don't eat what you cannot chew." "Eat chewables."
